It was April Fool’s Day and jokes were running rampant. For our song of
the day we sang I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas. President Mark was
called out for an emergency call. He knew it was a farce but as the
server insisted he finally went to see what the deal was. He asked Rick
Nisley to cover while he was gone. A big mistake, as the bell
disappeared while he was gone. The greeters were Heidi Pankow and
Heidi Waggoner. The prayer was lead by Bob Colony. It was actually a
poem about being able to look yourself in the mirror.
Guests today were introduced by the following: Wendy McBride
introduced Barb Hecht. Jeff Freeland had Ken Richard with him. Guy
Stephens brought David Keansley and Marilee Wood had Bill Knight from
the AKTION club with her. Bill was the top salesperson in AKTION’s
fundraiser.
Steve Castor had a happy buck as did Mark Relph. Mark said he was
Grandpa for the second time and brought $6.00. Kristin Winn put in a
buck because the people of Grand Junction have a sense of humor. Rick
Nisley, as usual, had a buck and a joke. LeAnn Zetmier put in a buck as
her son has been promoted to a manager trainee at his job. Allison Moore
contributed a dollar to say she is going to see her parents this
week-end and is getting ready for her upcoming marriage.
The program introduced by Heidi Pankow was Nancy Terrill and Mike
Ruspil from the American Cancer Society. The presented a power point
show about the upcoming Relay For Life. The goal is to raise $175,000
for Cancer research. If you would like to participate contact Mike at
248-9771.
Jeff Gumone, Earl Payne and Cheryl Berentis are celebrating birthdays
this week. Congratulations to all. Tom LaCroix has an anniversary this
week. He told of his most memorable anniversary. Actually it was the
year they got married. He said his wife got drunk, sick etc. He thought
maybe he should check about an annulment but as it turned out all has
gone well for the past 24 years.
Jeff Cyriaks brought the thought for the day. It had to do with
success. Heidi Waggoner had the Joke of the day. She said to look at
Revelation 3:20 and the response from Genesis 3:10. Joe Higgins was the
mystery greeter and he chose Joe Breman to receive the $5.00.
Steve Castor brought an update on Camp Kiwanis. He said the
Fellowship Church will work with Kiwanis this summer to learn the ropes
and will take over the camp next fall. This, of course, is subject to an
approval by our club and their church. The forest service will have to
agree as well. If you have questions contact Steve or Ed Branson.
Steve Thompson was handing out fines. He fined Mark for losing the
bell. Jean Thompson for the singing of White Christmas. He fined the one
table for stealing the bell. He Charged Rick Tuma with losing a whistle.
Rick Nisley also got in the act. He thanked Greg Schaefer for bringing
Steve into the club 10 years ago.
Next week we will meet at the Avalon again. The program will be
Generation BBXY brought by Mike Moran. On April 22 we will meet at the
Whitman Museum. Make plans to attend.
Gordon Harbert announced the Golden K Club is selling tickets for a
chili supper at the Redlands Community Center. This is scheduled April
30 and the cost is $5.00 per person. Also the Golden K has golf after
the meetings on Wednesday mornings. If you would like to participate
contact Don Espeland at 245-9081 or e-mail at

LeAnn Zetmier and Lynne Sorlye are heading up the membership drive.
As part of the drive they are putting sheets on the table with little
known facts about each member. There will be prizes for the most
answers. Also the cost for joining during the drive is dropped to $25.00
from fifty dollars and if you bring a prospective member and fill out a
TISTAFL you will not have to pay for their lunch. The Meaning of that is
There Is Such a Thing As a Free Lunch.
There were several gifts for the president. Rick Tuma brought back a
picture from his recent trip to New Zealand of a traffic circle with a
railroad track through the middle of it. Orville Boge had info from his
recent trips to see the NCAA Basketball playoffs. Roxie Denning brought
a little cable car from her trip to San Francisco. Guy Stephens brought
back some cowboy Bubble Bath (Pinto Beans) from his trip to Tucson.
Marilee Wood brought back a Goofy dangler fro the computer which she got
at Disney World in Orlando.
All in all it was a busy fun day at Kiwanis. If you missed you missed
out. See you next time at the Avalon.
