Kiwanis Weekly

December 30, 2004

Vice President Mike McDill was in charge today. He rang the water glass to call us to order as the bell is still missing. The Greeters were Debra Pace and ?. The prayer was lead by Rich Emerson. The joke of the day was told by Matt Guccini. He told of the sailor with one eye, one leg and one arm. He got all the lines right. However, Steve Thompson still fined him for using the word "poop" with all the kids present. The thought for the day was brought by Allison Ellington. It had to do with the actions of our life.

We sang two songs today. The first was God Bless America. The second was Auld Lange Syne. Jean Thomas told us the history of Auld Lange Syne before we sang it.

There were several guests today. If I did not get your guests names right I apologize. Terry Wakefield had his wife, Dottie, with him. Bob Stratton had his daughter Sheila, and his grand daughters, Grace and Claire with him. Joe Breman was accompanied by his wife, Jill. Bob Burger introduced his wife, Carolyn. Dennis Durmas brought his wife Earlene and son Jonathan. Fred Nichols was with his kids Stephanie and Cody. Stacy Mascarenas had her son Logan as her guest. Amy Denning brought her daughter and her grandson, Henry. Heidi Pankow had her husband, Scott and her two children. Tom Sheldon was with his kids. Toni Heiden-Moran had her grandchildren with her. Steve Katz had is daughter Michelle as his guest. Ron Sherman brought his wife, Rita. He introduced her as his blister. He was fined two bucks for that transgression.

Happy Bucks were given by the following: Tom Sheldon, Darlene Ficklin, Kristin Winn, Orville Boge, and Terry Wakefield all for having family home for the holidays. Joe Breman gave a buck because he was touched by Rich Emerson’s prayer. Bob Burger gave a buck for winning the football pools at work. Randy Rexwinkle was happy to start a new company. Mike McDill also was happy because he got to be with his family at Christmas. One of our young guests was happy to break the Pinata even before it happened.

The only birth day this week was Bonnie Peterson’s. She was not here so we did not get to hear of her memorable birthday experience.

Allison Ellington was in charge of the program. She lead the young people around the room and to the Pinata. She the let each one take a crack at breaking it open. After about three times through by all the kids it finally spilled it’s contents. The kids then got to pick up the candy.

Steve Thompson handed out some fines. Besides the fine to Matt and Ron he also fined Mike McDill. There was some kind of fine to Guy Stephens. It had to do with liars poker. Randy Rexwinkle was fined for wearing Oklahoma colors. Larry Beckner was fined for being in the paper without mentioning Kiwanis. Gordon Harbert paid for wearing a hat advertising one of his products.

The Second annual Mardi Gras party is coming up February 5. It is at the Bookcliff Country Club. Plan to attend. The cost is $30.00 for each person. Allison Ellington made that announcement.

Jill Breman will be here next week with the bloodmobile. January is National Blood Donor Month. Plan to donate blood if you can.

The Charter luncheon is planned for February 10.

Jim Moore’s mother passed away the past week. You can make donations to the American Lung Association in her honor.

Ron Sherman asked for donation to help the victims of last week’s Tsunami in South Asia. A thousand dollars was raised for that cause in about 2 minutes. Thanks to all who gave.

Don’t forget if you or your prospective member has not attended and orientation. There is one scheduled for January 5 at the Holiday Inn. Don Teets will conduct the training session. The time is 5Pm. Call Don if you have any questions.

See you next week!

Henry Langstaff Bulletin Editor.
