Once again it was time for
Young Women of the Month. Only three of the schools were
represented today as Cami Nadano, the representative from Grand
Junction could not attend. She said she will come next month. The
young lady from Central High School was Molly Johnson. She had her
sponsor Dan Bollinger with her along with her mother and
grandparents. Palisade High sent Chandra Scarrow as their
designated student this month. She had her parents with her and
her sponsor Anne Conneway. Fruita had Kaycee Almond as their Young
Woman this month. She had her mother, her friend, and another
friend with her. Her sponsor was Mrs Hallman.
Allison Ellington conducted
the honoring of these fine students. She also had Larry Beckner
give a brief synopsis of the history of the program. He said his
father Ray Beckner helped start the program. It has been in place
for some 43 years. In that time about 1500 students have been
honored. Today one of the student’s mother said she was one of
these honorees. Also, our member, Darlene Ficklin, said she was a
past recipient.
LeAnn Zetmier conducted the
meeting today. The song of the Day was Jingle Bells. The prayer
was brought by Henry Langstaff. Tom Sheldon brought News, Weather,
and Sports. Jim Moore brought the thought for the day. It had to
do with Character. Rich Emerson brought the joke of the day.
Fortunately, The Lord has made provision to forgive the sinners so
there are many more in Heaven than just Mother Teresa.. Brad
Krebill won the pot and the mystery Greeter was Rick Nisley.
Tom Sheldon had as his guest
past member Erik Busby. Jeff Cyriaks brought Dwayne Jackson as his
guest. Dwayne is another past member. Jeff Freeland introduced
Brad Willms again. Brad has turned in an application and will be
inducted as soon as he attends the indoctrination class. Don Teets
announced that will be on January 5 at 5PM at the Holiday Inn. The
current policy is to become a new member you and your sponsor must
attend an indoctrination class.. Stephanie Tuin had Debbie Kemp as
her guest and Marilee Wood brought Kathy Statin as her guest.
Welcome to all.
Happy Bucks were given by
Allison Ellington because she has gotten a promotion. Henry
Langstaff had a happy buck to mention the article about Kiwanis
and Habitat for Humanity that was in the Rocky Mountain District
Kiwanian. Jeff Gumone put in a buck because he and his wife are
expecting a new baby. Rick Nisley, Bruce Hill and Bill Byers were
happy because Finemaster Steve Thompson was not here today. Bruce
also stated his son was going to do an internship with the Grand
Junction Daily Sentinel. Vernon Gray was happy again about the Red
Sox and LeAnn Zetmier was conned into giving a buck.
Randy Rexwinkle is
celebrating his birthday. Joe Breman and Sandy Barger are
celebrating their Kiwanis Anniversaries and were here to tell of
their favorite time in Kiwanis. Joe said he enjoyed serving Ham at
Pancake day. Gary Lucero also has his anniversary.
Allison Ellington read a
