November 4, 2004

When the meeting started our president Mike Moran was nowhere to be found. President Elect LeAnn Zetmier called the meeting to order and lead in the pledge. Dave Kearsley lead in prayer and the song of the day was This Is My Country. Jean Thomas went through the words with us although I think most everyone has them down pat.

The greeters today were Amy Dyer and Tonya Massey. Thanks for doing the job.

LeAnn then had the guests introduced. Darlene Ficklin had as her guest Careen Caldwell. Amy Dyer introduced those who brought the program. Their names are Gwen Wood and Glen Bigelow. They are from the Circle K Club from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden. More on them later. Jeff Karandjeff had Denzil Harwood as his guest. Mike McDill brought Bruce Fears with him. There was one more group of guests. The Fruita Key Club accompanied by their sponsor Ted Brewster were here. They cleared up what had happened to our president.

The Key club had a video showing President Mike Moran asking us to pay the ransom to get him free. It seems Fruita Key Club has not gotten paid for their help at Oktoberfest and also at the Pancake Days. They were demanding their money to release Mike. They claimed they had raised at least $200. All the fines collected to day went to the Fruita Key Club.

The fines included charging Larry Beckner for wearing such a cute tie. Mike McDill was fined for calling LeAnn President. Rick Tuma paid $50.00 to go to the Key Club. Billy Byers also paid a fine. Fine Master Steve Thompson handed our these charges.

The only happy buck I know about was given by Orville Boge. He was happy about the Walter Walker Plaque at Mesa State College.

Bruce Isaacson introduced the program. It was the young people, Gwen Wood and Glen Bigelow from the School of Mines Circle K Club. They have a very active club and among their projects they go to Juarez , Mexico each year and help build 2 houses for the people there. They also help with the Ronald McDonald House in Denver. Work with Project C.U.R.E. They help with the Salvation Army house in the Denver area and with Children’s Hospital KPTI trauma dolls, answer phones for the Children’s Miracle Network Radiothon and Walkathons. They help to tutor elementary and high school students and the Clear Creek History Park. All in all they are a very productive service club. It has been talked of trying to start a Circle K Club at Mesa State. Maybe you could help with this endeavor.

Orville Peterson had the joke of the day. It had to do with a Minnesota Trucker and his Salt Truck. The Thought for the day was brought by Bruce Isaacson. He said Ray Charles was quoted as saying, "Live Every Day like it’s your last, because one day it will be."

Mike Moran was our mystery greeter and he awarded the money to the Fruita Key Club.

Next week the program will be Joe Breman. Be sure to come and see what interesting things he has to talk about.

Thanks to Rick Nisley for helping with the notes for this newsletter.
