It was the
first day of the new administration. Already President Mike
Moran lost his bell to one of the "trust worthy" members of his
own club. Fortunately it was recovered before the meeting was
completed. Hopefully Mike can trust his own members for the rest
of they year. (Don’t bet on it.)After we were greeted by
Heidi Pankow and Bob Colony, President Mike called the meeting
to order. The prayer was by Heidi Waggoner. The song of the day
was Roll Out the Barrel. The joke of the day was told by Pete
Jouflas. Actually he had several jokes from church bulletin
bloopers. The thought for the day was brought by Heidi Pankow.
Our speaker was Judy Shormann. She was introduced by Heidi
Pankow. Judy is the Victims Service Coordinator with the Grand
Junction Police Department. She talked about Domestic Violence
and what is being done to help those who are being abused. This
month is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Judy said the
violence can be physical or mental and is between those who have
had a close personal relationship such as spouses and children.
Those with guests today included LeAnn Zetmier who introduced
her friend Rae Putterbaugh(sp). Lowell Shormann introduced his
wife Judy as his guest and Roxie Denning was accompanied by her
husband Paul.
Roxie was honored as new Kiwanian of the year for the last
administrative year. Congratulations, Roxie. Also thanks to all
the new members who have helped out.
Happy bucks were given by Mark Relph who is happy to be
through as president and Orville Peterson who was happy for the
friendship with a person who passed away this past week-end. He
also was happy about other things. Bob Stratton put in a buck
because of the Catholic Outreach soup kitchen and the Greek
Festival upcoming. Rick Nisley was happy because Mark Relph is
through being president. Pete Jouflas had a buck to talk about
the Greek Festival coming up this week-end at the Greek Orthodox
church at 12th and Horizon. All are invited. Bill
Byers put in a buck to tell of Matt Guccini when he was a kid.
Don’t forget to sign up for the Habitat for Humanity work
days. They are October 16 and 23rd. Habitat is
working on a house in Camelot Gardens north of the Eastgate
shopping center.
Matt Guccini and Warren Reams were honored for their
birthdays this week. It is Matt’s 30th and Warren’s
84th. Allison Ellington and Brook Blaney also have
birthdays this week. Happy Birthday to all. Warren Reams also
has his Kiwanis anniversary at this time. He has been a member
since 1955 and he said the most memorable time as a Kiwanis
member was when he completed his year as president.
The Golden K Club will be having their allocations next
Wednesday October 13. They meet at then Redlands Community
Center at 9:00 AM. Our club is invited to attend.
The Oktoberfest was a great success. We do not have figures
yet but they are forthcoming. Thanks to all who helped.
The Bell ringing for the Salvation Army is scheduled for
December 4. A joint meeting with Rotary is to be October 28 and
again the day before Thanksgiving. Be sure to put these on your
calendar.
Next week the new Kiwanis Governor is to be here. Plan to
attend if you can.
There will be orientation for new prospective members the
first Wednesday of each month. Don Teets will conduct the
meetings. The new members will have to attend those meetings
before they are inducted into the club. The meeting will be at
Don’s business at 751 Horizon Ct, Suite 251 at 5:15PM.
Fine Master, Steve Thompson, fined Mike Moran for losing the
bell. He also fined Dennis Durmas, Orville Peterson, Ron
Sherman, Bill Byers, Matt Guccini and Warren Reams. Greg
Schaefer, Pete Jouflas and Mark Relph had to cough up money as
well. He gave a big thank you to Larry Beckner, Stacy Mascarenas
and Don Teets. Space does not permit me to give all the details
but Warren paid to tell of his second Great Grandchild.
Congratulations, Warren.
See you next week when the program is the Key Club Rocky
Mountain District Governor .
