Kiwanis Weekly

May 1, 2003

Today we elected new board members for the next year. Jeff Freeland, Mike McDill, Heidi Pankow and Karen Stealey will join holdovers Henry Langstaff, Orville Peterson and Randy Kirschbaum on the board. The incoming president is Mark Relph. Mike Moran is the president-elect and LeAnn Zetmier is the new vice-president. Thanks to all who are willing to serve and congratulations to those elected. Past president Rich Emerson conducted the election.

The greeters today were Steve Castor and Bruce Hill. The song of the day was America, the Beautiful. Kristin Winn brought the prayer. Tom Sheldon told the joke of the day. It had to do with moose hunting. Bruce Isaacson brought the thought for the day. It talked about doing the best you can in different circumstances. The Mystery greeter was Rita Crumpton. She chose Mark Relph to win the drawing.

Guests today included Trent Tilbury brought by Randy Kirschbaum. Jeff Freeland had Barb Walsh as his guest. Gordon Harbert brought along his wife. Sue Kiser introduced Christi Westerman. Ed Branson had his associate Mikiko Perryman as his guest. Steve Castor welcomed Mike Burke today. Rick Nisley had Kevin Griffin with him. Karen Stealey once again had lots of guests. I believe there were four. I did not catch all the names.

Sue Kiser had a happy buck in appreciation of the graduation of her daughter from the University of Utah. Bill Byers also was happy and contributed a buck because his daughter is doing fine after an emergency appendectomy.

There is an opportunity to order Kiwanis shirts. If you would like to place an order sign up and bring your money to pay for them. Randy Rexwinkle finally got his shirt from last time.

President Rick Nisley conducted the meeting. He seems to be missing his bell. He also tried to tell jokes but they did not seem to go over too good.

Stan Hilkey admitted he needed to be fined because he almost ran over Heidi Pankow in the parking lot. Such an honest sheriff!

Thea Chase, Mark Relph and Jeff Emerson are celebrating birthdays this week. Bruce Hill had one last week.

Jeff Emerson was inducted into the club this week. He works with his dad Rich at Johnson’s House of flowers and is being sponsored by Rich. Trent Tilbury was made a new member today. His sponsor is Randy Kirschbaum. Three new members were sponsored by Karen Stealey. They are Kristina Davis, Brynn Fisher and Sharon Anderson. Welcome to all.

Past President Bruce Hill will be conducting an indoctrination meeting shortly for all the new members and their sponsors.

Mike Moran announced the membership drive will continue to May 22. The one with the most new members will receive a gift of a two night stay in Mesquite for 2 people. The second place winner will have their choice of a trip to Denver with an overnight at the Holiday Inn and two Rockies Tickets.

These are contributed by Lynne Sorlye and Martie Miller. The other choice is two tickets to the Cabaret. Thanks to Heidi Pankow for these.

Pancake tickets were handed out today. The official kick-off is next Thursday.

Bill Byers said he enjoyed the Golden K chili supper. Don Teets said some $1500.00 was raised.

July 19th Steve Katz of Katz automotive will be having a lube special with all proceeds going to the Kiwanis Foundation.

July 24 is Pancake day at the Cheyenne Frontier days. This is the big deal put on by the largest Kiwanis Club in the Rocky Mountain Region. We are invited to attend.

Cortez Kiwanis club is sponsoring a golf tournament May 10. You are welcome to attend.

See You next week for the Pancake Days kickoff. It should be fun.
