You missed one of the best days in a long time if
you missed today. It was Pancake Days kickoff. The theme is Operation
Pancake Freedom. We had a drill instructor here to lead the kick-off.
The leaders this year are LeAnn Zetmier and Heidi Pankow. Each team
presented their own military marching cadence. All the teams sat
together at the same table. It was lots of fun. At the end sergeant Rick
Kiwanis challenged Clarence Ross to do push-ups. Clarence was not only
able to keep up but was able to make the sergeant breath hard. Wow!!
Each week you are to turn in your ticket sales to
your team leader. Look forward to hearing from your leader. Each member
is expected to sell at least $80.00 worth of tickets. The goal this year
is to sell a total of $25,000 in pancake tickets. If we all work
together we can do it. Of course the money all goes to help the
community and the children of our community.
The greeters today were Rick Rogers and Steve
Castor. The prayer was lead by Terry Wakefield. The song of the day was
I Want A Girl. Terry Wakefield also brought the thought for the day. In
honor of Mother’s day he said God could not be everywhere so he made
mothers. Heidi Waggoner brought the joke of the day. It had to do with
the war in Afghanistan. The mystery greeter was Greg Schaefer. He said
Rick Rogers was the last to shake his hand and so Rick got the $5.00.
Guests today included Lindsay Langfitt, who is
a Fruita cheer-leader. She was brought by her aunt Marilee Wood-Langfitt.
Bill Byers had his son Bryce with him. Joe Breman introduced his son
Matthew, his daughter-in-law Katherine and his new grandson. As the baby
is only a few weeks old Joe was assessed $7.00 for the baby. LeAnn
Zetmier had the drill sergeant as her guest. Bob Colony had his wife
Terry with him. Randy Rexwinkle had his wife Boots as his guest today.
Rick Tuma introduced Terry Youngblood from U-Tech as his guest. Karen
Stealey had Starr Nisley, Wendy McBride, Rita Hoback and Ryan Ellington
with her.
Stephanie Tuin contributed a happy buck in
honor of her daughter graduating. Jeff Gumone was happy because he is
celebrating 5 years of marriage. Martie Miller put in a buck to announce
that there are corporate table still available for the JUCO Banquet.
Orville Boge was celebrating the good showing of his grandson. Chuck
Ross said the attendance record was broken last week. Larry Beckner was
happy because he and his wife are now empty-nesters. LeAnn Zetmier had
several things to be happy about including her election as
vice-president of Kiwanis.
There were three inductions today. They were
all sponsored by Karen Stealey. Wendy McBride, who is from Bray & Co,
was inducted. Rita Hoback who works at Studio 12 became a member today
as did Ryan Ellington. Ryan is employed at Alpine Bank.
As needed past president Bruce Hill gives a
orientation for all new members and their sponsors. Watch for the date
and plan to attend.
Tuma introduced Terry Youngblood and told
about the Red Crawford Scholarships. This year four U-TECH students will
receive $1250.00 scholarships and the school will receive some $1600 as
well as $700 for special needs. This is thanks to former Kiwanis member
Red Crawford to established this fund before his passing.
#3 reason to join the Grand Junction Kiwanis
Club. You can continue to provide an enjoyable outdoor experience for
all by supporting Camp Kiwanis.
See you next week.
