Kiwanis Weekly

March 6, 2003

Greeters today were Maurice Henscheid and Gary Brown. Plus there was another greeter out there selling tickets to the Golden K Chili dinner. That was our own Gordon Harbert. He and Bob Colony paid fines for that.

Rhonda Porter brought the prayer of the day, the song was My Wild Irish Rose lead by Terry Wakefield. President Rick Nisley conducted the meeting as is normal. Rick also had the program. It was a very interesting program about the Grand Junction Kiwanis web sight. As I am sure you know the address for our web sight is Kiwanis WWW.kiwanis-gj.org . Not only does it talk about our activities but it also has a means to apply for our yearly grants or information about the club. You can also access the Golden K club on our web sight. If you have not visited it on the web plan to do so.

Guests today included Bill Byers son Bryce who is home from college. Gary Brown introduced Kevin Price. Kevin plans to get his application for membership into the club soon.

A Happy Buck contributed by Jerry Cooper because Orville Boge was wearing a Mesa Herd T-shirt. Orville Boge also had a happy buck. Jeff Cyriaks was happy because Katie Ames was sharing his table. Rick Nisley was happy because he gets to wear a red shirt. Bob Colony was happy to sell Golden K tickets. Larry Beckner was happy because Bruce Hill was running for city counsel. Karen Stealey was happy she had gotten her business moved to 9th and North Avenue. In case you missed it, it is called Studio 12.

Fines were assessed for among other things that Bob Colony and Gordon Harbert were selling Golden K tickets. Another fine was assessed to Steve Castor because he lost his badge. Bill Byers was fined for not mentioning Kiwanis in his resume of Daughter Lindsey in her newspaper article.

Rhonda Porter brought the thought for the day. She quoted from Proverbs. She said a good man runs from trouble and a bad man runs to trouble. Jerry Cooper brought the thought for the day. He told of a series for meetings between President Bush and Saddam Hussein. You had to be there to truly get its full meaning.

Eleanor Walker is celebrating her birthday this week. Be sure to wish her happy Birthday when you see her.

The mystery greeter was Guy Stephens and he chose Jerry Cooper for the drawing.

Pete Jouflas announced that Bill Holmes had sent a thank you note to the club for honoring him as citizen of the year.

The Golden K Club announced they are planning to have a golf tournament on June 4 at the Chipeta Golf Course.

Lynne Sorlye fell and broke her ankle in three places. She will be on crutches for a while and hopes to be back to club next week. We all wish you well, Lynne.

Clarence Ross announced the Mesa State baseball and softball teams are playing this week-end and that the women’s basketball team won last night and will be playing some more.

Bob Hanson brought a gift to our president from his recent trip south of the border. It was a red cap with sentiments saying I think I’ll have another Beer.

Marilee Wood also returned from Mexico with gifts for the president. Apparently they all think about Rick’s drinking as her gift to him was a beer opener and a beer bottle cozy.

Next week our program will be The King and Trio. You don’t want to miss it.

Henry Langstaff – Bulletin Editor.
