Kiwanis Weekly

January 9, 2003

President Rick Nisley called the meeting to order at 12:30. He first asked us all to stand and honor our unheralded piano player Jeanie Thomas. As he mentioned and we have all seen, she is always here on time with appropriate music for the season. Thanks Jeanie.

The prayer today was offered by Bill Byers. The song of the day was This Is My Country.

There were several guests including the following: Ron Lappi had Captain Bruce Rose from the Salvation Army. This was his last time as a guest as he was inducted into the club today. Dwain Jackson had his grand daughter Juliana Bray with him today. Mike Moran had his wife Toni Heiden-Moran with him. Toni, who is a member of the German-American Club, announced that they raised $8860 at Oktoberfest. The Lieutenant Governor of Kiwanis, Dewey Dodge was here today. He is a member of the Hotchkiss club. Mr Dodge announced the Mid-Winter meeting will be February 21-23 in Golden. Several from our club are planning to attend. Bob Hanson introduced Carl Wagoner as his guest today. Ed Branson had Wren Franklin with him. Wren has a business here in Grand Junction. Randy Kirschbaum was accompanied today by Trent Tilberty from Alliance Mortgage. Finally LeAnn Zetmier had her daughter with her.

Bob Stratton gave a happy buck because of the new Habitat for Humanity house that went to a needy family. Orville Boge donated a buck because he had a great time skiing in Vale. Scott Haren had a $1.00 to celebrate his great golf game.

There were no birthdays this week but Heidi Pankow is celebrating her tenth wedding anniversary. She said she met her husband in Phoenix in a bar.

Scott Hayduk introduced the program today. It was Dennis Bruens from St Mary’s Hospital. He showed a video and talked about the growth and needs of St Mary’s.

Ken Willard brought the thought for the day. He said you needed to be a success the first time if you go sky-diving.

Scot Haren had the Joke of the Day. He talked about the lines into Heaven.

President Rick recognized LeAnn Zetmier for her good work producing the monthly Calendar.

Rick Emerson was fined because he mentioned Valentines Day and how he had flowers for sale for that day.

Bruce Hill paid a fine for his time on TV when he did not mention Kiwanis. Bruce has announced he is running for City Counsel. President Rick threatened to fine the city employees if we continue to meet in the large cave like room we were in today.

Fred Aldrich was welcomed back to club by being fined for being gone so long.

Jeff Gumone paid $1.00 for not eating a dessert. He would have been fined the same for eating one if he had. You just can’t win.

Bruce Rose said the offerings for The Salvation Army were down this year. Our club only collected $7900 as compared with $9600 last year.

Heidi Pankow brought back gifts for the president from her trip to Arizona/California. Brook Blaney brought a gift for the president from his trip to New York City. LeAnn Zetmier and her daughter had a gift from their recent trip to Florida.

The program next week is the Young Women of the Month. Be sure to be here.
