The first meeting of the New Year was sparsely attended. In fact several
of the tables were scrambling to have at least one lady at the table.
President Rick Nisley, who conducted the meeting, pointed out that two
had table had men only at them but as there was one table with only a
couple of women at it they avoided being fined. He finally fined the
table with our 4 Rotary guests with them for the non-mixed tables.
Orville Boge stated that his table had invited a woman to join them but
she declined as she did not wish to sit with her back to our president.
Who know why? Any rate Orville was fined $1.00 for his statement.
Jeanie Thomas was in the winter time mood with her music which included
Sleigh Ride.
Jim Karandjeff lead the prayer and the song of the day was God Bless
America. The only guests were the four Rotarians and the program. More
on the program later.
Happy bucks were not in evidence so I guess no one was happy that the
year is starting anew.
The program, introduced by Scott Hayduk, was Doc Richardson. He had a
slide presentation from his recent trip to Antarctica. He went down
there to search for rocks for his geology studies at the university in
South Island, New Zealand. I think it looked mighty cold and barren down
there. He said the temperature was between 30 degrees and minus fifty
degrees while he was there.
Max, one of the Rotarians, was the only one celebrating a birthday
this week. There were no anniversaries. We sang Happy Birthday to Max.
Don Teets brought the thought for the day. It concerned middle age.
Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports. He mentioned that all
the Colorado teams in the bowls lost as well as Mr Nisley’s favorite
team from Nebraska.
Pete Jouflas brought the joke of the day. He had several jokes. They
had to do with quotes of athletic type people. I think the quotes
brought in question the mental capabilities of the athletes or else the
reporting abilities of the writers who told of the quotes.
Les Goodding was the mystery greeter. He said he chose Jerry Cooper
as the recipient of the drawing.
Mike Ross stated the only athletic teams active at Mesa State at this
time were the basketball teams.
President Rick tried to induct the Rotary members into the club but
they declined.
On January 30 the blood bank will be at the club. Please plan to come
and donate blood if you can.
Also on January 30 the beef raffle will take place. Tickets will be
on sale at the next few meetings.
Lee Young was asked if brought back a gift to our president from his
recent trip. He had a copper replica of the Lincoln Memorial which he
presented to President Rick. (One Penny)
Among the programs this month is the Young Women of the Month and the
Above and Beyond Awards. Make you plans to be at the upcoming meetings.
