Kiwanis Weekly

January 16, 2003

When I arrived at club our greeters were there with a smile on their faces and a hearty handshake. The greeters were Jim Moore and Brad Krebill. Thanks Gentlemen.

After President Rick Nisley danced to the podium and called the meeting to order Orville Boge led us in prayer. The song of the day was This Land Is Your Land. When President Rick honored the birthday of the week, which was Dwayne Jackson, Dwayne led us in the singing of Let The Rest of The World Go By.

Guests today were introduced by the following: Jim Karandjeff had Jerry Van Cleave with him. Greg Schaefer introduced Donna Page and the president of the Grand Valley Kiwanis Club. His name is Gordon Elliott. Ron Sherman, who needs no introduction, was greeted by President Rick. Ron is a past member of our club and said he would probably be back to rejoin us in a couple of months. John Wickory was introduced by Greg Hancock.

Gordon Elliott from the Grand Valley (Parachute ) club had three other members of their club with him so we had an interclub. The other members were Terry Linehart, Dick Smith and Al Swenson. Al presented us with a check for $2500.00 to be used as needed at Camp Kiwanis. Their Club is looking forward to being a part of the Kiwanis camp. They will have a member of their club on the committee and help to make the club more All Western Slope oriented.. That is the aim of our club to divest ourselves of the total responsibility for the camp.

It was Young Women of the Month time again. Larry Beckner conducted the honoring of those outstanding young women. He also had several jokes to tell as he went along. Sarah Shean from Grand Junction was not able to attend but the following were honored. From Fruita Nora Welch was accompanied by her father John and her sponsor Ann Kuhlman. Palisade had as their young lady Randi Klugiewicz. She had Vera Mulder as her sponsor and her mother Shelly with her. Central was represented by Danielle Jefferis. Danielle had Carlos Elias as her sponsor and was accompanied by her mother, Marge.

There were several announcements. The mid-winter conference is coming up in February. If you would like to attend you need to get your registration now. The blood drive is January 30. There was a sign-up sheet passed around today. Also the beef raffle is January 30. Tickets are being sold now.

Debra Pace brought back a gift for the president from her recent trip to Arizona. It was a rattlesnake envelope and also a sweat shirt honoring the recent football game for the college national championship. Katie Ames just got back from a trip to New Zealand and Australia to celebrate her 25th wedding anniversary. She brought back a boomerang for President Rick. It came equipped with instructions. Eleanor Walker, too, has been on a trip and brought back a Hula Girl doll for our president. Needless to say, she went to Hawaii.

Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports. He tried to show us the humorous side of the news and especially concerning Bill Byers. Bill, you needed to be here to defend yourself.

Ken Willard brought the thought for the day. Brad Krebill had the joke of the day and Rita Crumpton was the mystery greeter. She chose Ron Sherman to receive the $10.00 and closed the meeting.

See You next week when the program will be the Above and Beyond Awards.
