Kiwanis Weekly

February 6, 2003

It was another fun time at Kiwanis. Our president called the meeting to order without the benefit of the bell and gavel as they were among the missing. Go figure!

Lowell Shormann and Greg Hancock were the greeters along with the extra greeter Mike Moran. Mike explained he was waiting for his wife, Toni, to join him for lunch. She was his guest today. The song of the day was Heart Of My Heart. Orville Peterson lead the prayer.

Besides Toni Heiden-Moran other guests were Donna Page from the camp introduced by Jeff Gumone, Steve Katz brought by Debra Pace and Rita Crumpton had her husband Tom with her. We also had 5 members of the Fruita Key Club with us at lunch today. Their president Chelsea Fisher introduced them. Welcome to all.

Happy Bucks were contributed by Dwayne Jackson because there were soup spoons, Mike Moran because of his grand kids and the joke of the day. Jeff Gumone in congratulations to Bruce Isaacson for celebrating 61 years of marriage, Orville Peterson just because he is happy to be alive. Brook Blaney also had a happy buck as well as Orville Boge.

Birthdays this week are being noted by Scott Hayduk and Steve Castor. Lowell Shormann also was honored as he missed last week when it was his birthday.

Bruce Isaacson and his wife Aldean are celebrating 61 years together this Saturday. When he was asked how he did it he said it was by living as long as he has. Bruce in only 14 more years you will be celebrating the diamond anniversary. That is something to look forward to.

Lowell Shormann had the thought for the day and Greg Hancock had the joke of the day. It had to do with high tech implants. Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports.

Lynne Sorlye introduced our speaker. She was Carolyn Aust from Nurses Family Parenting Partnership. We were told how the group is helping the young inexperienced mothers and fathers.

The Charter Luncheon is coming up this month. The citizen of the year was to be selected by a committee today.

The Blood drive was a success last week. There were 12 pints of blood donated. 16 people offered to give blood but some had colds and were not able. If you would still like to donate you can do so at St Mary’s.

Don’t forget the orientation coming up on the 13th at the Holiday Inn. Bruce Hill will conduct that at 5:30 PM. All new members and their sponsors are asked to attend.

Our own Bruce Hill was honored at the Chamber Dinner for being small businessman of the year. Congratulations to Bruce and his business, Superior Alarms.

Donna Page gave us a report on Camp Kiwanis. She said the camp committee has met with the Delta, Hotchkiss and the two Montrose clubs. These clubs are looking into being sponsors of the Camp. There is a trip planned to go to Rangely next week to present the club to the Rangely Kiwanis Club. She also mentioned that grant requests are being made and asked us all to be sure to talk up the camp whenever we have a chance.

Mike McDill said there is an interclub planned next Tuesday night in Glenwood Springs to talk up the camp. If you would like to go up with them contact Mike.

Greg Schaefer had a gift for the president. He was at Scottsdale, Arizona and brought an IOU as he said he did not think of our esteemed president while he was down there.

Ken Willard was in Reno and brought back a couple of leprechauns, a deck of cards, a cap and other gifts. Larry Beckner returned from a trip to Taos and had an ice pack as he said he fell and cracked some ribs. Bob Stratton recently went to New Zealand and Australia. He had a Kiwi mascot doll from the New Zealand Rugby Team.

Next week the program is Go-el, Inc with tom Dennis. Plan to attend!!!
