Kiwanis Weekly

February 27, 2003

Today was the Charter Luncheon. Do you realize this club is some 60 + years old. Think of all the good this club has done for the community in that time and how many lives have been touched.

Mark Relph lead the meeting today. He handed out some fines and mentioned how he was going to get even with those who make fun of his round-abouts when he is president next year. He fined President Rick for his joke of the day and Bob Colony for making fun of the round-abouts.

The greeters today were Lowell Shormann and Bruce Dwire. The song of the day was This Is My Country. Orville Peterson lead the prayer.

As already mentioned Rick Nisley had the joke of the day.

Mark Relph had a large "wallet Sized" picture of his grandmother. It looked a lot like Mark with a wig on.

Guests today besides those who attended to see our citizen of the year honored were Kevin Price who was introduced by Thea Chase. Kevin works for New York Life. Heidi Pankow introduced eight members of the Central Key Club. Steve Katz had his wife Sherry with him. Jeff Gumone said his brother Chris has just moved here and is filling out an application for membership. Chris is with Wal-Mart. Bob Colony was with his wife Terry today and Mike Moran had his wife Toni Heiden-Moran as his guest.

Jeff Cyriaks had a happy buck because there was a woman at their table.

Kristin Winn was happy because her son won inn the free skiing competition last week-end.

Mike Moran was rejoicing over the recent moisture.

Jerry Cooper and Margaret Simonson are celebrating birthdays so be sure to wish them a happy birthday when you see them.

Randy Kirschbaum is in charge of the golf tournament which is scheduled for May 16 at the Chipeta Golf Course. He would like some help with the project to get in touch with Randy if you would like to help.

Pete Jouflas introduced our Citizen of the Year. Bill Holmes was honored for his community spirit. He has helped our with United Fund, The Library and Catholic Outreach. Terry Pickens, the librarian, spoke of his help with the library and Sister Kara Bland told of Bill’s help with Catholic Outreach.

All the local TV news gatherers were here taking pictures. I hope you saw their coverage on the news Thursday evening.

Bill Holmes had his daughter and granddaughter from Denver here today. He also had his wife of 52 years and his son and grandson with him today.

Mike Moran handed out attendance awards to those with perfect attendance this past year. In order to qualify you either need to attend all the meetings or go to a make-up meeting with another club, attend a board meeting or do work on behalf of Kiwanis.

Those honored were as follows: 1 year– Rita Crumpton, Bruce Dwire, Heidi Pankow, Lynne Sorlye and Eleanor Walker. Those with 2 years perfect attendance were Mike McDill, Mike Moran and Mark Relph. Three years – Maurice Henscheid, Brad Krebill, Marilee Wood and Kristin Winn. Four years Pete Jouflas and LeAnn Zetmier. Five years – Rick Nisley. 6 years Rick Emerson. 7 years – Henry Langstaff. Jim Moore has nine years of perfect attendance while Larry Beckner, Orville Boge and Guy Stephens have 12 years of perfect attendance.

Would you believe Bob Burger has 15 years of perfect attendance while Don Teets has 16 and Gary Brown has 17. Bob Colony has an outstanding record of 39 years of perfect attendance.

The Calendar says next week Bruce Hill will speak but unfortunately he cannot so Rick Nisley will give a session on using the Kiwanis Home page. Don’t miss it.

Marilee Wood corrected me concerning the proposed AKTION Club. Those who will be eligible are those with developmental disabilities not learning disabilities.

See YOU next week.!! Henry Langstaff – bulletin editor.
