Kiwanis Weekly

April 24, 2003

The push for new members continues to pay off. Today we inducted two new members. They were Tom Sheldon sponsored by Heidi Pankow and Barb Krause sponsored by Karen Stealey. Welcome to all the new members. Let’s all make it a point to tell them how glad we are they chose to join Kiwanis.

There is still 3 more weeks to bring your prospective new member and not have to pay for their meal. Also if they join during the membership drive the initial fee is dropped from $50.00 to $25.00. The goal is 20 new members and we already have seven!

President Rick Nisley called the meeting to order. The greeters were Amy Dyer and Ed Branson. The song of the day was God Bless America. The prayer was offered by Bill Byers. Mike McDill brought the thought for the day. It had to do with the most important thing in life is to be kind. Sue Kiser had the joke of the day. It had to do with students lying as to why the missed a test. The mystery greeter was Debra Pace. She chose Bill Byers to win the drawing.

Guests today included Therese Luellan brought by Heidi Pankow. She also introduced Tom Sheldon for the last time as a guest. Randy Kirschbaum had Trent Tillbury and Rick Yomans as his guests. Tom Twinn and Kevin Bohrman came as Debra Pace’s guests. New member Vern Grey brought Brian Roth as his guest. Jeff Gumone introduced past and future member Ron Sherman. Ron assured us he is not Jeff’s guest but pays his own way. Sue Kiser had Pat Steinkirchner as her guest. Pat is a past member of Kiwanis. Finally Karen Stealey had a large number of guest. In fact I think she had 4 more new prospective members.

Although the one who brings the most new members during our membership drive will be the winner of a trip to Mesquite, NV, I think Karen has that pretty well wrapped up. The second place winner will have the choice of a trip to Denver for a Rockies game or tickets to the Cabaret. The third place winner will get the other prize.

Happy Bucks were contributed by Heidi Pankow because of the performers coming to the Cabaret. That cost her $5.00. Lynne Sorlye is happy because she finally got her cast off and can drive again. Don Teets said the Golden K club is having a Chili Supper April 25. Mark Relph had a happy buck as well.

Mike McDill introduced the speaker Trent Prall. He told about the plan to separate the drain sewer from the other sewer. Very interesting presentation.

Next Week is the annual election. 5 people have been nominated for 4 opening on the board. They are Amy Dyer, Jeff Freeland, Mike McDill, Heidi Pankow and Karen Stealey. LeAnn Zetmier is nominated for the vice-president. Come and plan to cast your ballot for the leadership of your club.

There were 2 Fruita and 4 Central High School Key-clubbers plus one sponsor here today. Mrs Dwire from Fruita was the sponsor. They thanked the club for sending them to the recent district convention. They told of what is going on with the Key Clubs.

Lowell Shormann spoke about the attendance drive as Mike Moran was not at club.

Ed Branson, Steve Castor and Jeff Gumone were named to the board of the newly founded Camp Kiwanis Foundation. They will serve along with 2 members from the Grand Valley Club in Parachute.

Don Teets announced the upcoming Operation Pancake Freedom headed up by LeAnn Zetmier and Heidi Pankow. More to come.

Bob Hanson and Bob Colony brought back a gift for our president from their recent cruise to Hawaii. It was a coconut shell bank and a deck of cards and two other gifts.

See you next week.
