Kiwanis Weekly

August 7, 2003

President Rick was away on vacation. This brought a round of applause when President Elect Mark Relph announced it. Mark was handing out fines right and left for the many remarks concerning round-abouts. It should prove to be an interesting year coming up.

The greeters today were Lowell Shormann and Stephanie Tuin. Orville Peterson brought the prayer of the day and the song was This Land Is My Land. Lynne Sorlye brought the joke of the day. It had to do with a woman winning the lottery and telling her husband to pack. Lynne also had the thought for the day. She said remember you are exchanging a day of your life for what you do each day. So make it count!!!!!!

Heidi Pankow introduced several guests from the Cabaret. They were also the program. Heidi Waggoner introduced her new son Kenneth Michael Waggoner. He was one of the youngest guests we have ever had. He was born less than 2 weeks ago and weighed 6# 14 oz.. Congratulations to the Waggoners.

Ron Sherman introduced Tom LaCroix as his guest. He said he did not know we had moved back from the Elks and had been going over there for the past several months. Ha!

Jeff Freeland had a happy buck to announce he is still employed by Waddell and Reed contrary to what was in the newspaper. Stan Hilkey had a buck to announce one of his employees at the sheriff’s department had a new baby. Mike McDill has happy because he is going to get to see his two granddaughters and (O yes) his daughter. Mark Relph was happy because his son is going back to school soon. Ron Sherman was happy in a round about way.

Mike Moran had the News, Weather and Sports. He mentioned the hot weather and the basketball star among other things.

Birthdays this week included Katie Ames, Elgin Mallory, Lee Young and Greg Schaefer. The Anniversaries included Steve Castor, Debra Pace, Brad Krebill, Lynne Sorlye and Ken Willard. Congratulations to all.

Steve Castor announced the meeting for Thursday August 21 will be at Camp Kiwanis. There were sign-up sheets on the table. The time will be 4:30 for tours and swimming and 6:00 for the meal. Come up and see what is happening at the Camp.

Steve Thompson said the camp kitchen remodel is in full swing. Thank you to Gordon Harbert and Ken Maher for building materials and floor coverings. He said Orville Peterson was able to get gravel which is needed at the camp. Steve is looking for some help getting the gravel hauled to the camp. If you know of someone with a dump truck who would do it for little or nothing call Steve at his business. The phone number is 245-9173. Orville said the gravel was donated by Rick Schroeder.

The program today, introduced by Orville Peterson was some of the players from the Cabaret singing songs from the current play. The play is Kiss Me, Kate. I am told it is a very enjoyable play. Plan to attend if you can.

Sue Kiser said the Mesa County Health Department is promoting mosquito repellent during the month of August.

Heidi Pankow was the mystery greeter and Joe Breman won the pot.

Kristin Winn is looking for more to help out with the Safety Walk. It is planned for September or October. There will be a planning meeting August 8 at 4PM at Kristin’s office at City Hall.

Ken Willard had a gift for the president. It was a hat from Fitzgerald’s in Reno. He also had flowers for each day he spent there. He said they also went to Greeley and his wife won a bronze medal in the senior Olympics but was not willing to give it up.

See you next week! Camp Kiwanis is the subject.
