The place was packed
today. We had people from 15 of the 16 organizations that received
money from our Kiwanis allocations with us today. $25,000, which we
worked so hard to raise, was given out today by the club.Terry
Wakefield headed up the committee to choose those who were to receive
money. Terry stated we had applications from 18 different groups. 16
of which we gave money to. His committee included Steve Katz, Maurice
Henscheid, Joe Breman, Eleanor Walker and Terry Wakefield. The money
that was allocated and approved by the board of directors went to the
following groups.
Adoption Alliance was given $1000.00. Mandy Copeland received the
money on their behalf. Boy Scouts of America received $1500.00.
Catholic Outreach was allocated $1500.00. Community Food Bank got
$1000.00. Counseling and Education Center had $1000.00 presented to
them. First Book-Mesa County got $1200.00. Mesa County RSVP Senior
Scholar Project received $2000.00. Girl Scouts of Chipeta Council had
$1500.00 given to them. Girls on the Run got $1000.00. Go-el had
$2800.00 as their share of Kiwanis’ largess. Hilltop Community
Resources received $2000.00. Marillac Clinic was allocated $1500.00.
Mesa County Partners was allotted $1500.00. Mesa Developmental
Services was given the largest amount of any one organization with
$3000.00 as their share. Strong Families, Safe Kids had $1500.00 as
their part of the money given out.
Finally Western Slope Center for Children received $1000.00.
This money represents the hard work of not only the Kiwanis members
but also the Key Clubs and help from many of the organizations
receiving funds. Money was raised at Oktoberfest and Pancake Days as
well as the Lube project at Katz Automotive.
The committee and the club were given a hand for all the hard work
that went into this project.
Kristin Winn announced the Safety Walk will be Wednesday, September
17 at Lincoln Park. She said we need to all help out on that day. Sign
up sheets were on the table and will be there again next week.
Thea Chase announced Oktoberfest is October 4. Plan to help out.
Thea and Bruce Dwire are heading up that committee. If you would like
to help give them a call. There will be an organizational meeting at
Main Street Bagels on August 29 (tomorrow) at 9AM. Come if you can.
Orville Boge just came back from a trip to the west. He brought a
gift for president Rick. It was a t-shirt from Reno.
Those who have not had their pictures taken for the directory plan
to have that done in September. President Rick announced today.
Thank you to LeAnn Zetmier for the September calendar. Next week

The greeters today were Stephanie Tuin and Mike Stahl. The song of
the day was In the Good Old Summertime. The prayer was offered by
Orville Peterson and the thought for the day was also brought by
Orville. Orville said be kind to those who can do you no favors. Mike
Stahl had the Joke of the day. It had to do with jokes against CU. The
mystery Greeter was Karen Rowe. She allocated the money to Bob Hanson.
Happy Bucks were given by Bill Byers because he and his wife are
now empty nesters. Marilee Langfitt-Wood had a happy buck and Karen
Rowe gave a buck as did Rich Emerson and Rick Nisley.
Guests today included Starr Nisley and Terri Domberet introduced by
Karen Rowe. Ken Hart was a guest of Allison Moore. Thea Chase had as
her guest Kevin Price, who has turned in an application for
membership. Stephanie Tuin had Mary Dunder as her guest. She said she
too is filling out an application for membership.
Those with birthdays were all absent celebrating their birthdays.
Orville Boge and Bruce Dwire are celebrating anniversaries. Orville 53
years and Bruce 33 years. Congratulations to you and your spouses.
