Kiwanis Weekly

June 5, 2003

The meeting today got off with the singing of the song This Land Is Your Land. The prayer was offered by Rich Emerson. The greeters were Joe Breman and Guy Stephens.

Rich Emerson, who missed his birthday last week, told of his most embarrassing moment. He said it had to do with being a busboy.

Ed Branson and Mike McDill are celebrating anniversaries this week. Congratulations to both you and your spouses.

Guests today were brought by Dennis Mitchell who had Anne Dreggers (sp) with him. Stephanie Tuin introduced members of the Central High Key Club. There were some half dozen members. They later collected money for the cake sale. That money goes to support Key Club. Debra Pace had Seth Schaefer with her today. Joe Breman introduced his guest Lorene Guttierez. Bob Colony had Rick Hunt with him again. The core group from the Grand Junction Action club visited today. I think there were some 12-15 in that group. Bryann Fisher had Janice Phillips as her guest. Steve Katz brought Rod Seifken with him. Rod is the assistant pastor at Northeast Christian Church.

Happy Bucks were given by Mark Relph, Rich Emerson, Martie Miller, Trent Tilbury, Bob Stratton and Debra Pace.

The program today was regarding the Partners program. Because Eleanor Walker was busy counting Pancake Day money President Rick Nisley introduced our own Joe Higgins. He had three others with him. They were Laura Hallett, Patrice Lynne, and Earl ?. Partners is a mentoring program for troubled youth or at risk youth. Partners is looking for more senior partners who can give 3 hours a week for at least a year to meat one on one with a young person. They are looking for volunteers.

The though for the day was brought by Guy Stephens. He said, " Blessed are the flexible for they will not be bent out of shape."

The mystery greeter was Guy Stephens and he said the last person he shook hands with and so won the money was Henry Langstaff.

The Pancake day sales are going well. There has been almost $25,000.00 in sales already and we still have another week to go. Go out and sell. If you need more tickets there are some still available at Johnson’s House of Flowers. Everyone who is a member is expected to sell at least $80.00 worth of tickets. There are 24 people who have sold at least $300.00 worth and several more that are nearly at that goal. If you sell $300.00 or more you are eligible for the final drawing for the special gifts. They are 2 rounds of golf for two at the Redlands Golf Course. 2 trips to Denver with tickets to a Rockies game and Elitchs as well as a night at the Holiday Inn. The other special gift is 2 tickets to the Cabaret.

We recited the pancake march chant. It was lead by Karen Stealey and her group of new members.

Kristin Winn asked for everyone to donate to the silent auction.. We also need all corporate sales turned in by Monday. That according to Bob Colony.

Gifts won this week for sales were received by Bill Byers who got the Rose Bud from Johnson’s House of Flowers. Joe Higgins who won the lube, oil and filter from Katz Automotive. Thea Chase won the Banana Split. Terry Wakefield got the wine and Ron Lappi won the haircut from Studio 12.

Top sales this week were Bob Hanson, Bob Colony, Mike McDill and Roger Martin. Roger, do you find time to work at your job or are you just selling pancake day tickets?

The picnic following pancake day is at Hawthorne Park. Be sure to sign up and attend.
