Kiwanis Weekly

December 18, 2003

It was time for Young Women of the Month. Honored from Grand Junction High was Morgan Jappe. Central High’s Heather Ahvero was recognized and from Palisade High Jessica Sargent was the young woman of the month. Fruita had Laura Crittendon as their young woman of the month. It is always good to hear of the accomplishments of these outstanding young women.

President Mark Relph called the meeting to order. Kevin Price was the greeter filling in for Mike McDill. Kevin also brought the prayer. The song of the day was Joy To The World.

Among the guests today were Rick Morey. He was introduced by Jeff Freeland and was later inducted into the club. Mark Jackson had as his guests Sandy Barger and George Brauneis. Sandy also was brought into the club today. Mike McDill had Pete Baer as his guest and Rick Tuma had his wife Jan with him.

Rita Crumpton was celebrating her anniversary this week. She said her husband always remembers to send her the same kind of flowers she wore in her bridal bouquet.

Birthdays this week are being celebrated by Bruce Isaacson (who said the next one is always the best one.), Wendy McBride also had a birthday as did Jim Hill. Mike Moran said he was always glad even though his birthday was close to Christmas he got a separate gift of each. He, of course, had a birthday this week. Ron Sherman and Steve Katz also had birthdays at this time.

Happy Bucks were contributed by Orville Boge because of his wife’s birthday, Steve Castor and Jim Moore because of a Rose Bowl wager, Rita Crumpton because of the success of the Fruita Parade of Lights, LeAnn Zetmier because her kids are coming home for Christmas, Rita Hoback because her son is coming home for Christmas, Bob Burger because Saddam has been found so Bob doesn’t have to worry about growing a beard. Finally Thea Chase was happy because her open house was a success.

President Mark announced Steve Thompson will be his official adviser on fines. Steve apparently caught an opportunity to fine the Mark had missed.

Mark said he did not have the final numbers on the Salvation Army Bell ringing but Rotary beat their numbers and we fell short. It looks like the board will get to serve the Rotary. Final numbers next time.

St Mary’s blood drive will be at Two Rivers January 22nd. Plan to give blood if you can.

Two Rivers will be upping our lunch charge from $9.75 to $10.00. Sorry about that. The increase will be reflected as of the first of the year.

Gifts for the president were given by Terry Wakefield from his recent trip to London. Bruce Dwire was in Rhode Island and New Orleans with his daughter. He brought back a shot glass for the pres. Rita Crumpton was in Sun City and brought back a tiny wooden hammer from a craft show. Ron Sherman went to Las Vegas and presented president Mark with 20% of his winnings. Actually it was a bill for $50.00 because he said this reflected 20% of his losses.

The Joke of the day was given by Vern Gray. It had to do with Bronco and Charger fans.

Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports. Don Teets brought the thought for the day about what God wants for Christmas.

Ed Branson was the mystery greeter. He awarded the $5.00 to Don Teets.

Don’t forget there are no meetings the next two weeks but if you wish to attend a Kiwanis meeting the Golden K Club meets on Wednesday at 9AM at the Redlands Community Center.

See You January 8th. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
