Kiwanis Weekly

November 6, 2003

President Mark Relph called the meeting to order. We had the song of the day which was This Is My Country. Kristin Winn brought the prayer. The greeters today were Kristin Winn and Brad Krebill. The Thought for the day was by Orville Peterson. He said Bobby Knight said there are many with the will to win but not with the will to prepare. Isn’t that the truth?

Guy Stephens brought the joke of the day. It had to do with Hillary Clinton thinking God is occupying her place. Must have been from some Republican!

Bob Hanson won the drawing as Scott Hayduk’s first choice was no longer there. Scott was the mystery greeter.

The program was a Barbershop Quartet called Spare Parts. They did a nice job with several old standards. They were introduced by Orville Peterson.

Bill Kistler and his wife Kye are celebrating their 60th anniversary this week. Kye was at club as a guest of her husband.

Guests today included Vicki Bell introduced by Jeff Freeland. Tom Sheldon had his wife Laurie with him. Terry Wakefield introduced Paul and Lynn Miller. Actually the Millers are the guests of Brook Blaney but as he was not at club Terry did the honors. Paul is a former member of the Lubbock Kiwanis Club. Bill Kistler had his wife Kye with him. Toni Heiden-Moran once again had Clark Yoder as her guest. She said he has an application for membership. President Mark said if he is alive and has the money to join he will be approved.

Happy Bucks were given by Orville Boge to mention the Women’s Bazaar at the Methodist Church tomorrow. Kristin Winn had a buck because the Riverside parkway ballot issue passed. Steve Castor said he was happy because Mesa won their football game. Mike Stahl said he was happy because his daughter ran in the 5 K race sponsored by Harbert Lumber. Rick Nisley was happy because of the color of Les’ coat. Maegan Monson had a happy dollar. Mark Relph also gave a buck because of the passage of the Riverside Parkway and because he had heard from his friend in California. Martie Miller had a buck to celebrate getting a ticket to Simon and Garfunkel. Gordon Harbert was happy because he did not have to have surgery on his knee.

Bruce Hill announced there will be a new member indoctrination December 4 at 5:30 at the Holiday Inn. If you are a new member or a new member’s sponsor and have not been to this informational training plan to attend.

Mike Moran announced there has been over 100 raffle tickets sold. Ed Branson has sold over 30 and Greg Schaefer has sold over 20. They sell for $100 each. After the prizes are paid the balance will go to help Camp Kiwanis. The most tickets that can be sold are 250. If you have not purchased one and would like to contact Mike. The drawing will be the 26th of November at the joint meeting between Kiwanis and Rotary.

Thea Chase brought a gift back to the president from her recent trip to Australia and New Zealand. She had a little statue of a sheep for President Mark’s desk.

Bruce Hill announced his youngest is now in school but he just got word that his wife is expecting another in the spring.

LeAnn Zetmier said the planning committee for the after Holiday party will be meeting tomorrow at Main Street Bagels at 9AM.

Next week the program is the Make a Wish Foundation. Plan to attend if you can.
