Kiwanis Weekly

September 26, 2002

It was a day of transition. Out with the old and in with the new. After we recognized the greeters: Janet Rowland and Martiey Miller we had the pledge, the song of the day, This Land Is Your Land and the prayer by Bill Byers.

Guests were introduced as follows: Pam Nicholls had her husband Rich with her. Rich Nisley brought his wife Starr. Lois Becker had her husband Butch at club and also introduced the incoming Lieutenant Governor Dewey Dodge. Dewey is from Hotchkiss. He announced that the Governor’s Dinner will be November 1 in Hotchkiss at the Senior Center. He said the cost is only $25.00 per couple so make your plans to attend. The meal is at 7PM with a get acquainted time at 6PM.

Bruce Dwire announced we need more to sign-up to help at Oktoberfest. That is October 5 at 3rd and Main. He said we especially need help later in the day and for clean-up. Be sure to plan to help out.

It was good to see Dennis Mitchell at club today. Maybe he came because he had the thought for the day but whatever, welcome back, Dennis. His thought for the day had to do with why is a pair of pants so called when there is only one.

Sue Conry, Dale Hardy, Steve Thompson and Gordon Harbert are celebrating birthdays this week. Only Sue has here to have the song said to her. Happy Birthday to all of you.

The installation of new officers was today. First Lois Becker recognized her board and gave them each a plaque. The outgoing board consisted of Mark Relph, Bill Byers, Eleanor Walker, Giselle Smith, Mike McDill, LeAnn Zetmier and Mike Moran. The outgoing officers were thanked and each given a plaque. They consist of Lynn Sorlye as Secretary, Steve Stranger as Treasurer, Pam Nicholls as Vice President and Rick Nisley as President Elect. Lois also gave special recognition to Marilee Wood for her outstanding help with the Resource Directory. Marilee not only edited it but also got business to sponsor the cost of it . Good Job! Marilee.

Lois also gave special recognition to Katie Steele for her help with the Camp Kiwanis.

Rick Nisley gave a special plaque to Lois Becker for her year as president.

Rich Emerson then conducted the installation of the new officers. The New board consists of Randy Kirschbaum, Allison Shain, Mike Moran, LeAnn Zetmier, Eleanor Walker and Mike McDill. There is one vacancy. More on that later.

Steve Stranger is once again the Treasurer. Lynne Sorlye is Secretary and Vice President is Mark Relph. The President Elect is Pam Nicholls and the new president is Rick Nisley. The immediate past President is Lois Becker.

President Rick told us of his plans for the upcoming year. He said the meeting will start at 12:30 so there will be more time to socialize. He said the programs will be shortened to about 12 minutes. He plans to have a Joke of the Day. In fact today Rick told a joke. They are to be clean!! Rick also plans to have an Explainer. It will be Lowell Shormann or any old Geezer! Happy Bucks will be part of the program and the money raised will go to help out with the Save the Children program and so will the money raised by the gum ball machines.

He also asked for an upgrading of the gifts for the president and put a ringer in the crowd to demonstrate. Bob Burger said he had been to Hawaii and brought back a nice bottle of wine for the president. However it looked like President Rick gave him the bottle to give back to him. It Sounds Like a Gun Year!!

Look out for the mystery greeter who will pick the winner of the drawing of the day. Today it was Don Teets and the money went to the outgoing president Lois Becker.

Heidi Pankow announced the Central Key Club is having a car wash this Saturday at Party Land. She said they meet every Tuesday at 11 AM.

Lois Becker announced there is an opening on the board of directors. Orville Peterson has announced he would like to fill the position but if you would like to be elected let Lois know. There will be open nominations next week.

The Program next week is League of Women Voters on Ballot Issues . Plan to attend.
