Kiwanis Weekly

October 3, 2002

The first full meeting of the new administration got off to a good start with the exception of the bright red coat worn by new president Rick Nisley. President Rick said he would pay $20.00 for the privilege of such antics throughout his administration. I guess he was trying to show the blood-letting Iowa State caused to Nebraska!

The meeting was called to order by President Rick at 12:30. That have us all plenty of time to visit prior to the formal meeting. Bob Colony lead the prayer and the song of the day was America, The Beautiful.

Guests today included Wes D’Aponti’s wife Milynn. Wes said she was here to check out whether there was any reason to spend that money on Kiwanis. Randy Kirschbaum introduced Scott Heron. Ron Lappi had Bruce Rowles with him. Bruce is with the Salvation Army and has turned in an application for membership. Peggy Page introduced Jim Brunswick. He owns Blue Star Construction. Amy Dyer had her husband John with her today.

Mike Moran gave an abbreviated edition of News, Weather and Sports. He said the Nebraska football team was trying to figure out what the white powder on the field was. They police were called and it was determined that was the goal line.

Bruce Dwire announced there is a need for more help later in the day at Oktoberfest. We will be set up at 3rd and Main. There is parking available at the Bank of Grand Junction’s parking lot west of Plaza Reprographics.

Don’t forget the special meeting next Thursday. Our own Larry Beckner will be repeating his sermon given at the District Convention. Plan to attend.

The program today was our own Janet Rowland talking for the League of Women Voters. She discussed the amendments and referendums that are on the upcoming ballot. Good Job, Janet!!!!!!

Jim Moore is celebrating a birthday this week. We sang Happy Birthday to him.

Mike McDill brought the thought for the day. He said some of our best decisions are when we decide not to do something.

The Mystery Greeter was Les Goodding. He said the winner of the pot was Pete Jouflas. It was good to see Les back. He has been gone for 10 weeks because of the fracture to his ankle.

A new feature each week will be Happy Bucks. If the reason to talk is for personal reasons the price is one dollar however if it is a business reason it is $5.00. Any rate several people contributed. Les Goodding said it was good to be back after 10 weeks. Heidi Pankow because of the special anniversary at the Spot Light this Friday. Jerry Cooper because his candidate appears to be leading. Martiey Miller because of the Iowa State win.

Lee Young brought the joke of the day. It had to do with a parrot and a chicken. You needed to be there to fully appreciate the humor.

Orville Boge mentioned the Hall of Fame for Mesa State College.

President Rick mentioned there may be fines upcoming for those setting in the same place each week. He especially mentioned that to Jeff Gumone.

Bob Hanson and Bob Colony have just got back from Lake Powell. They brought back a gift of a bass filet and an Israeli Melon for the president.

Don Teets mentioned that Mesa will be playing Western State and Chadron the next two weeks.

Plan to attend next week and hear Larry Beckner bring a special presentation.
