The Kiwanis meeting today started with a gong. That is President Rick
Nisley tried to ring the bell but it was not there so he banged his head
with his hand. Perhaps that is a Nebraska thing!
Rich Emerson lead the prayer and the song of the day was America, The
Beautiful. Guests included Mike Stahl’s guest Annie Wagonoff(sp).
Kristin Winn had her son Scott with her. Don Teets introduced Chris and
Victoria Thomas. Wes D’Aponti had Jennifer Allen with him. She is an
intern at his business from Mesa State College. It cost Wes a buck to
tell where she was working.
Happy Bucks were contributed by Heidi Pankow because of her new
nephew, Orville Boge because he was happy that the Mesa State football
team was winning. Bruce Isaacson donated money because he had seen a car
with 4 pairs of skis on top. Bill Byers was rejoicing over the Fruita
Monument win over Grand Junction.
Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports but had a hard time
getting anyone to laugh. He remarked it was a tough crowd.
Rick Nisley introduced our speaker. It was Chris Thomas. He spoke to
us about the home rule issue that is on the election ballot this year.
Bob Stratton brought the thoughts for the day. He talked about people
remembering if you were right or wrong among other things.
The mystery greeter was Brad Krebill. He went and shook hands with
Don Teets so he could win the $5.00 to help him to go to Hayes, Kansas
this week-end to watch Mesa State play football. It had been announced
that Don was in need of help to get to Hayes this week-end.
President Rick gave a special thank-you to Jean Thomas for her piano
playing. She said she never gets to eat.
The Joke of the day was brought to us by Bob Stratton. It had to do
with Nebraska Football and their simpleton player Bronco.
Birthdays in the next week are being celebrated by Rita Crumpton and
Heidi Waggoner. They both told where they were born. Rita in Sioux
Falls, Iowa and Heidi in Limon, Colorado. Congratulations to both of
you.
If you would like to help out with the Kids Voting program please

Rich Emerson once again announced there are three vacancies to be
filled. One for Vice President and two on the board. Mike Moran has been
nominated for vice president and Orville Peterson and Henry Langstaff to
serve on the board. If you would like to run for these positions contact
Rich this week as there will be nominations open one more time next week
and then the vote will be November 7.
President Rick announced there were copies of the purposes and
objects of Kiwanis on each table. He also said the web page has been
updated.
Don’t forget the Governors visit will be November 1 at Hotchkiss and
the charter dinner for the new Golden Age club will be next Wednesday.
If you would like to attend either of these talk with our president and
find out what is needed to sign up.
Don’t forget next Thursday is Halloween and if you would like to
dress for the occasion please do. The meeting will be about the
financial issues by the City of Grand Junction.
I will see you then.
