Kiwanis Weekly

November 7, 2002

Our President Rick Nisley was sporting his red jacket again. I think he is thinking of doing some bull fighting or something. (At least he doesn’t have an N embroidered on it.)

The song of the day was My Country Tis Of Thee (America). Pete Jouflas lead in prayer and the greeters were Eleanor Walker and Ron Lappi.

Guests today included Jim West who is an announcer on THE country and western radio station. He was a guest of Martiey Miller. Jeff Gumone had former Kiwanis member Randy Rexwinkle as his guest. Mike McDill introduced Jill Serrano and Joe Breeman. Jill is with the Blood Center and Joe is a Kiwanis member from Boca Raton, Florida. He is moving here and plans to transfer his membership.

Happy bucks were contributed by Randy Kirschbaum, Martiey Miller, Rick Nisley and Jeff Gumone.

Martiey Miller brought News Weather and Sports. She had some humorous thoughts about current events.

Eleanor Walker introduced the speaker today. It was our own Mike Stahl. He told about the new Senior assisted living facility called the Commons. He said it will open next month and will have room for some 139 occupants. If you would like to have someone do your laundry, prepare your meals, chauffeur you around and make sure you take your medicine it sounds ideal.

Ted Sparn is celebrating his birthday this week. As he was not there Bob Burger acted as his surrogate and we sang Happy Birthday. It is also Bill Kistler’s anniversary this week. He and his wife Ky have been married 59 years. Congratulations to all.

The mystery greeter was Jeannie Thomas. She said the last person she greeted was Pete Jouflas and he won the $5.00.

Bob Hanson told the joke of the day. It was a senior joke. You needed to be there to truly appreciate it.

Eleanor Walker brought the thought of the day. It had to do with ideals and hope.

Stan Hilkey was given congratulations for his victory as the new sheriff of Mesa County. He was sporting the Star on his jacket for all to see. When he arose to receive the lauds of president Rick a couple of our members thought it was time to put their hands on the wall and spread them. Maybe they have had to do that before!

Mark Relph was hobbling around. It is suggested that Jeff Cyriaks hit him in the middle of a Round-about.

The election for the board members and Vice President were held today. Mike Moran is our new Vice President. The new board members are Orville Peterson for team 4 and Henry Langstaff for team 6. Thanks for your willingness to serve.

Next week, President Rick announced, there will be pictures taken of those whose pictures are not in the directory. Plan to attend and have your picture taken.

The Christmas party is planned for December 7 at Tiara Rado. Mark that on your calendar and plan to attend.

Clarence Ross announced the Mesa State Football team plays this Saturday here in Grand Junction. They play Nebraska Kearney. The Soccer team and the Volley Ball teams are through as of this week-end and last.

The Central Key Club thanked us for contributing $170.00 for their Trick or Treating.

Next week the program is After School Program. See you then.

Henry Langstaff – Bulletin Editor.
