Kiwanis Weekly

May 30, 2002

The song of the day, one more time, was Take Me Out To The Ball Game. By the time you read this JUCO will probably be over so we can look for a different song next week.

President Lois Becker called the meeting to order. Bob Stratton gave invocation and we had the pledge.

Guests today included Karen Levad introduced by Sue Kiser. Once again Heidi Wagner was brought to club by Heidi Pankow.

Birthdays this week were celebrated by Allison Shain, Heidi Pankow, Guy Stephens and Larry Beckner. Heidi and Larry were at club and had Happy Birthday sang to them.

The program was Dr Tom Tadvick, a local dentist, who talked about the Marillac Clinic. He was introduced by Margaret Simonson. Dr. Tadvick had Sister Mary Clarice of the Sisters of Leavenworth with him. That order of nuns operates 10 hospitals including St Mary’s Hospital and the Marillac Clinic.

Dr Tadvick had a slide presentation explaining the history and mission of the clinic which exists to bridge the health care gap by providing medical and dental care to the uninsured of Mesa County.

We had two new members inducted today. Mark Leistico who is a Chiropractor here in Grand Junction. Ken Willard is retired and told us about the history of his life. Welcome to both new members. There will be a training session upcoming to help you learn about Kiwanis. Bob Colony will announce the time and place soon.

Coleen Arnold reported there was only $2522.00 collected and turned in this week for pancake day tickets. We all need to get on the ball to get those tickets sold.

Kristin Winn announced the silent auction needed more items and they should be delivered to Valley Office Supply by June 7.

Bob Colony said corporate sales have now reached $12,000.00 and there are several accounts still not in.

Bruce Dwire reported the Key Clubbers will handle the Cake Walk at Pancake Day but donations or cakes are still needed. Please plan to bring money by next Thursday for cakes.

Mike Moran gave a report on the membership drive. Rita Crumpton was honored for bringing in three new members. Randy Kirschbaum won the drawing for two nights at the Inn at Aspen but he graciously donated that prize to the silent auction. Thanks Randy.

Pam Nicholls told the club that a walking tour of the Downtown area has been added to the activities at the upcoming District Convention.

The thought for the day was brought by Glen Dennis. He quoted Lance Armstrong who said " Take nothing for granted. Now I only have good days and great days!"

Guy Stephens is recovering from surgery and will be in the hospital another few days. Be sure to send him a card. Hope you are feeling better, Guy.

Thanks to Lynne Sorlye for taking notes as I was unable to attend the meeting because of a funeral I attended.
