Once again it was time for Young Women of the Month. Bill Byers
introduced them. It is always good to see what these young people can
accomplish. In fact, I was very much impressed that for once they had a
young woman who had been struggling academically but has overcame
obstacles to be recognized by her school.
There were two young people from Grand Junction High School. First
there was the scholar from last month. Her name is Jill Blecha. She was
with her sponsor and her parents. Then the girl for this month from
Grand Junction was Maggie Fromm. She too, had her mother and her sponsor
with her. From Fruita the Young Woman of the Month was Lindsay Redd. Her
parents were with her but her sponsor was unable to attend so Bill Byers
read and told of her accomplishments. Palisade was represented by Sofia
Leon. She too had her sponsor and her parents along with her. Finally
Central High’s Jackelyn Henning was with her sponsor and her parents.
Congratulation to all of you.
I believe the greeters today were Jim Moore and Allison Shain. The
song of the day was Easter Parade. Michelle Smith once again brought the
prayer. President Lois lead the meeting. Lynne Sorlye brought the
thought for the day. It was something about prejudice. Jeff Cyriaks won
the pot and walked away with $5.00.
Birthdays this week are being celebrated by Ron Lappi, Jeff Gumone
and Earl Payne. If you see any of these people be sure to wish them a
happy Birthday. They must be celebrating as none were at club.
Guests today included Debra Page and Natrona Johnston and Dawn
Walker. They were all guests of Heidi Pankow. Randy Kirschbaum brought
Ken Richards with him. Jacquie Chappell-Reid had as her guest Dr Michael
Hall. Mike Moran had Cory Hulse and Cory’s wife Donna as his guests.
Larry Beckner introduced Crystal Riddle and Carmen Sherwood. They
were from Fruita High and brought a slide show about a Mosaic the young
people from Fruita have prepared to take to New York in memory of 9-11.
The tiles in the Mosaic are all hand made and depict the city of New
York as well as the flag and sayings from various presidents. They are
looking for money to help them take this mosaic to New York. If you
would like to see it go to the Fruita Civic Center in the next week or
else later to The Art Center on North 7th.
We are still looking for someone to help out with the Knowledge Bowl.
If you would like to participate see president Lois soon.
It was good to see Velma Bilger back today.
Katie Steele brought a report from the Oversight Committee. She said
they had 2 new reservations for camp time and are expecting another.
There was a camp committee meeting last night. There was no report on
that.
Mike Moran said the Membership committee is working to fill a table
each week with prospective new members. A new member can be inducted for
half price ($25.00) until May 15. Also if you bring a prospective new
member between now and then you will not be charged. Think about
bringing fellow workers of church members.
Rich Emerson announced there are still no Kiwanis members signed up
to participate in the Grand Valley Kiwanis Club’s Golf Tournament. It is
to be at Battlement Mesa Golf Course May 18. See Rich if you would like
to attend that.
Dwayne Jackson serenaded us with a chorus of Yankee Doodle Dandy. He
is selling tickets for the Barbershop Show. That is scheduled for April
20. Tickets are $6.00 and $8.00 depending on your age and the amount of
tickets purchased.
Earl Jensen brought back a gift for President Lois from his trip to
Death Valley. It was a 5 ounce piece of fool’s Gold.
