Another busy day at the Kiwanis meeting. After President Lois Becker
called the meeting to order we sang God Bless America and Rich Emerson
lead the prayer. The Greeters today were Sue Kiser and Wally Bissinger.
There were lots of guests. Among members introducing guests were Rich
Emerson who had his grandson Chanden Quarles with him. Bill Byers
introduced Janice Ward(?) who is running for political office. Mona Dyer
had two people with her today from KJCT-TV. Although she said their name
I could not hear their names. Eleanor Walker presented two guests who
were also part of the group there because of the program. Jackie
Chappell-Reid introduced Joyce who has served us for many years at
Kiwanis and also brought items for the silent auction. Mike Moran was
accompanied by his wife and ex-Kiwanis club member Toni Heiden-Moran.
Coleen Arnold had Tammie Harris with her. Welcome to all guests.
Rick Nisley had shirts spread out on the tables out in the hall. If
you ordered a shirt with a Kiwanis logo it is here. Plan to wear it on
Pancake days.
The program today was introduced by Sue Kiser. It was Build a
Generation program. They were presenting awards to those who went and
"extra mile". Margaret Pierson is director and they honored several
people. Among those receiving awards was our own Kiwanis Club Member
Janet Rowland.
Birney Cox was celebrating his birthday and we sang Happy Birthday to
him.
Mike Stahl brought the thought for the day. It had to do with losing
weight and the battle between the good food prepared by God and the bad
brought about by the Devil. You needed to be here to appreciate it.
Randy Kirschbaum won the drawing.
As there were lots of guests here for the awards Rick Nisley had them
all stand and if they had not bought a pancake day ticket went about
trying to sell them each at least one. The ticket sales are going well,
so reported Mark Relph, we had some $3892.00 turned in this week. At
this time individual ticket sales are ahead of last year even though
Corporate sales are behind. But there is one more week to get those
tickets sold so get out there and sell, sell, sell.
Rita Crumpton sponsored two new members who were inducted this week.
They were Sue Connery from the Chipeta Counsel of Girl Scouts and Stan
Hilke from the Mesa County Sheriff’s department. Welcome new members.
Bob Colony plans to do an introduction to Kiwanis training session
shortly. New members and your sponsors watch for it.
Orville Boge sold some $600 in tickets this past week and has sold
over $1000.00 so far. Mike Stahl had $520 in sales this past week. The
winners of the drawing for ticket sales were Thea Chase who won two
lunches at the Good Time Restaurant and Ron Lappi who won a bud vase
from Johnson’s House of Flowers.
Rick Nisley is still looking for more help especially after noon at
the Pancake Day next week.
Amy Dyer announced there is a need for additional items for the
silent auction. If you have something to help call her or Kristin Winn
or bring your items to Valley Office supply.
Next week will be a program about Pancake Day. We received a preview
from Earl Jensen who told of the first pancake day here in Grand
Junction. Plan to attend and find out about the history of pancake days.
Pam Nicholls announced the district convention committee met last
Tuesday. She said they are working hard. The registrations are at the
printers now.
I received an e-mail from Donna Page. She said the Kiwanis Camp is up
and running. The Boy Scouts Order of the Arrow visited last week and did
some clean-up and maintenance work. The camp committee also met this
week..
