Kiwanis Weekly

January 31, 2002

Sue Kiser and Mike Stahl were greeters today. Rich Emerson lead in prayer and the song of the day was This Is My Country.

President Lois Becker called the meeting to order and we sang happy birthday to those celebrating birthdays this week. They included Rick Nisley, Lowell Shormann, Denise Bagg and Scott Hayduk.

Guests today included Tammy Anderson who was a guest of Allison Shain. Michelle Heiser brought Shannon Davis with her. Bruce Dwire once more introduced Amy Dyer. She has been approved for membership and will be inducted next week.

Did everyone see the ad in the Sentinel about Kiwanis? It was a good picture of the officers and directors. There will be a membership drive in March or April so this may lay some ground work.

I wish to apologize to Bob Hanson. I said last week Bob Stratton was selling beef raffle tickets. I am sorry, Bob, that I typed the wrong name. Any rate, Bob Hanson was again today selling beef raffle tickets. If you would like to buy a chance for some beef see him. The raffle is next week.

The speaker today, introduced by Mark Rose, was Mike Meininger from the Mesa County Engineering department. The subject was the storm water management. He was accompanied by Trent Prall from the City of Grand Junction and John Ballagh from the Grand Junction Drainage District. There was an interesting slide show about the storm drainage needs of the valley. Mike stated there would need to be some $34,500,000 to repair the needs plus another $11,000,000 from the city. They are looking for volunteers to serve on a committee related to the correction of these storm drains.

Mike Moran brought the News, Weather and Sports. His main topics were the state of the union address and the Olympics.

Doug Doughty’s name was drawn but was not there so the pot goes to $15.00 next week.

Mike Stahl brought the thought for the day. It was about Mud Puddles and Dandelions. And about how we learn from our kids.

Alan Friedman brought back a gift for the president. He recently took a trip to South American and especially to Venezuela. He brought her 2 bars of soap and a brochure from his pillow and some coffee from Venezuela.

A special board meeting was called last week to receive a letter of dissolution from the Camp Committee. There will be a question and answer period conducted by Mike McDill next week and then a vote February 14 about closing the camp. Information about the board meeting and the letter will be posted on our web sight.

The mid-winter conference is February 8, 9 and 10. Rita Crumpton and Rich Emerson are planning to attend if Rich can get away that close to Valentines Day.

The Charter Luncheon is February 28. The Citizen of the Year committee consisting of Eric Lusby, Pete Jouflas and Jacquie Chappell-Reid are looking for nominations for the citizen of the year.

Pancake day is coming up in June. The committee headed up by Rick Nisley are trying to decide whether to have it at 2 Rivers or at the Lincoln Park Barn.

This was our last meeting at the Elks Club. Next week we will start meeting again at Two-Rivers. Don’t forget where to go!!

Chuck Wanebo had his 2 little girls picture in the Daily Sentinel this past week. President Lois gave him $2.00 for his nice picture.

Mike Stahl was honored at the Chamber luncheon and was fined $2.00 for no mention of Kiwanis.

See you next week at 2-Rivers.

Henry Langstaff - bulletin editor.
