Sue Kiser and Mike Stahl were greeters today. Rich Emerson lead in
prayer and the song of the day was This Is My Country.
President Lois Becker called the meeting to order and
we sang happy birthday to those celebrating birthdays this week. They
included Rick Nisley, Lowell Shormann, Denise Bagg and Scott Hayduk.
Guests today included Tammy Anderson who was a guest
of Allison Shain. Michelle Heiser brought Shannon Davis with her. Bruce
Dwire once more introduced Amy Dyer. She has been approved for
membership and will be inducted next week.
Did everyone see the ad in the Sentinel about
Kiwanis? It was a good picture of the officers and directors. There will
be a membership drive in March or April so this may lay some ground
work.
I wish to apologize to Bob Hanson. I said last week
Bob Stratton was selling beef raffle tickets. I am sorry, Bob, that I
typed the wrong name. Any rate, Bob Hanson was again today selling beef
raffle tickets. If you would like to buy a chance for some beef see him.
The raffle is next week.
The speaker today, introduced by Mark Rose, was Mike
Meininger from the Mesa County Engineering department. The subject was
the storm water management. He was accompanied by Trent Prall from the
City of Grand Junction and John Ballagh from the Grand Junction Drainage
District. There was an interesting slide show about the storm drainage
needs of the valley. Mike stated there would need to be some $34,500,000
to repair the needs plus another $11,000,000 from the city. They are
looking for volunteers to serve on a committee related to the correction
of these storm drains.
Mike Moran brought the News, Weather and Sports. His
main topics were the state of the union address and the Olympics.
Doug Doughty’s name was drawn but was not there so
the pot goes to $15.00 next week.
Mike Stahl brought the thought for the day. It was
about Mud Puddles and Dandelions. And about how we learn from our kids.
Alan Friedman brought back a gift for the president.
He recently took a trip to South American and especially to Venezuela.
He brought her 2 bars of soap and a brochure from his pillow and some
coffee from Venezuela.
A special board meeting was called last week to
receive a letter of dissolution from the Camp Committee. There will be a
question and answer period conducted by Mike McDill next week and then a
vote February 14 about closing the camp. Information about the board
meeting and the letter will be posted on our web sight.
The mid-winter conference is February 8, 9 and 10.
Rita Crumpton and Rich Emerson are planning to attend if Rich can get
away that close to Valentines Day.
The Charter Luncheon is February 28. The Citizen of
the Year committee consisting of Eric Lusby, Pete Jouflas and Jacquie
Chappell-Reid are looking for nominations for the citizen of the year.
Pancake day is coming up in June. The committee
headed up by Rick Nisley are trying to decide whether to have it at 2
Rivers or at the Lincoln Park Barn.
This was our last meeting at the Elks Club. Next week
we will start meeting again at Two-Rivers. Don’t forget where to go!!
Chuck Wanebo had his 2 little girls picture in the
Daily Sentinel this past week. President Lois gave him $2.00 for his
nice picture.
Mike Stahl was honored at the Chamber luncheon and
was fined $2.00 for no mention of Kiwanis.
