President Lois Becker got us started right on time with the song of the day which was This Is My Country. Bill Byers then lead in prayer and we did the pledge.

Jacquie Chappell-Reid had as her guest today Colleen Arnold. Colleen is with the Chamber of Commerce. Bill Byers once again had his daughter Lindsey with him. Mike Moran had his grandson Anthony along for the day.

There was some discussion about the Fiesta Bowl and also the upcoming Rose Bowl. Everyone was somewhat subdued about the Fiesta Bowl. All the CU fans seemed pretty quiet. Rick Nisley is counting the hours till the Rose Bowl game and he said he did root for CU on New Years Day.

Mike Moran brought News Weather and Sports. Most of his comments centered around sports.

Terry Wakefield said there was a "blessed event" in his family. He has a new Granddaughter. This cost him $7.00 to make that announcement. Congratulations, Terry. Jacquie Chappell-Reid said she has a new grandson. This is also Chuck Wanebo’s new nephew. Jacquie said bill her for the announcements. Congratulations to you, too, Jacquie and Chuck.

Our speaker today was Ryan Patterson. Ryan is a senior at Central High School. He just returned from Sweden where he attended the Nobel Prize presentations. As you probably know Ryan won several prizes for his science project. The project is the making of a glove to interpret sign language. Not only did he win local and state contests but also national competitions. He said he has been awarded some $400,000.00 in scholarships and is in the running for the Boetcher scholarship which would pay all his college expenses. Ryan has had John McConnell as his mentor. John was chosen by Kiwanis as citizen of the year for his science projects. Ryan brought a very interesting presentation. He said he carries a 4.1 GPA and will probably attend Stanford or Colorado University next year. Orville Boge said Kiwanis has helped sponsor the local science fair.

Bill Kistler brought the thought for the day. He said, "I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me." He also said , " You don’t stop laughing because you grow old, you grow old because you stopped laughing."

Jim Schneider had his name drawn for the pot but as he was not present the pot will grow to $10.00 next week.

The computer auctioned by Don Teets was bought by Bruce Isaacson for $175.00.

Pam Nicholls brought a spread sheet on possible meeting places. There will be a vote on where our meetings will be January 17. Two Rivers is having an open house January 12.

LeAnn Zetmier is now doing the calendars. Good job, LeAnn.

Don Fifield brought a report on fund raising activities for Camp Kiwanis. He reported some $4114.00 has been raised. Jacquie Chappell-Reid says she is concerned about the camp and said there will be a pro-con statement forthcoming.

Greg Schaefer is reported to have won the liars poker game. Rick Nisley said the amount won was $2500 however Greg said it was only $50 and he was fined $5.00 by our president for winning.

Michelle Heiser has been traveling and brought back mementos from Las Vegas for President Lois.

Bob Colony and Bob Stratton brought back gifts for our president from their trip to the Fiesta Bowl. They included seat pad, pom-poms and a crown.

Don’t forget next Tuesday Don Teets will conduct an indoctrination for new Kiwanis Members and their sponsors at his office located at 326 Main, back door at 5:15PM.

Orville Peterson gave President Lois some info on gender related items but no one seemed to know which was which.

Next Week the program is Spare Parts- Barber Shop Quartet. Plan to attend.
