Kiwanis Weekly

January 24, 2002

President Lois Becker lead the meeting and because of the type of program she said the short jokes would not be fined today.

Mark Rose lead the prayer and the song of the day was America (My Country Tis of Thee).

Guests today included Maurice Henscheid’s small daughter Shala. Michael Hale introduced his associate Tanya Dover (sp).

Jeff Gumone said Dennis Mitchell was his guest. That, of course, because it has been a long time since Dennis has been at club. Kristin Winn had Carli Hayer (sp) with her and Bruce Dwire once again had Amy Dyer with him. Welcome to all the guests.

Coleen Arnold was inducted into the club today. Her sponsor is Jacquie Chappell-Reid. Coleen is the Events Coordinator for the Chamber of Commerce.

Don Teets conducts an indoctrination for new members and their sponsors the second Tuesday of each month. It is at his office at 326 Main, back door. The time is 5:15PM.

Mark Rose and Larry Beckner had the program today. It was a Kiwanis Name Game. The object was to know the most about the club and it’s members. The categories were Service Club, La Petite President, Kiwanis Projects with Smush and Famous Relatives of Club Members. It was a fun program. In fact the meetings are all fun. If you have been missing Kiwanis meetings you are missing out on lots of fun things. I think a big thank you to our president is in order for the way she brings out the best in everyone.

Birthdays this week were celebrated by Ed Branson and Lois Becker. Ed was not here today but Lois was, of course, so we sang Happy Birthday to her.

Earl Jensen brought the thoughts for the day. He spoke about killing the poinsettia after Christmas and about God not being allowed in School and finally the sign on a wall of a restaurant in Nevada which said Free Beer Tomorrow!!!

Rita Crumpton’s name was drawn but as she was not present the pot goes to $10.00 next week.

Jeanie Thomas wants everyone to know she did not take the money last week but rather donated it back to the club for club projects.

Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports. He talked about the bankruptcy of K-mart and Enron along with the miracle that the Denver Nuggets won a game against the Los Angles Lakers in LA.

Next week the program is from the Division of Wild Life. Plan to attend.

The charter luncheon is coming up February 28. Jacquie Chappell-Reid is heading up the committee to select the citizen of the year. She is being assisted by Pete Jouflas and Eric Lusby. If you would like to nominate someone for this honor get it to one of those three by February 8.

We will start meeting a 2 Rivers on February 7. Don’t forget.

There will be a beef raffle on that date. Bob Stratton and Pete Jouflas are heading up that endeavor.

Pancake day is June 14. President - elect Rick Nisley is in charge. He announced a committee meeting next Tuesday at 2 Rivers.

Rick also announced he will be taking pictures to update the membership roster on February 14. If you are new or have not had your picture taken plan to attend club on the 14th and get that done.

Pam Nicholls introduced the committee chairs for the upcoming district convention. It will be in August in Grand Junction.

See You Next Week!! Henry Langstaff - Bulletin editor.
