It was a fun meeting today. The young Women of the month were honored and we had a visit with a delegation from the Central High School Key Club. There were jokes and good fun. If you missed I am truly sorry. Plan to be here with us next week for the Charter Luncheon. The club will be celebrating it’s 65th anniversary.

President Lois Becker called the meeting to order. The greeter was Heidi Pankow. The song of the day was This Is My Country. Mona Dyer lead us in prayer. LeAnn Zetmier brought the thoughts for the day and Mark Rose won the drawing and walked away with $15.00. Mike Moran brought News, Weather and Sports. As an introduction he said don’t suffer from insanity but rather enjoy it.

As you probably know Mark Rose is moving away next month. He has accepted a job in Provo, Utah and there will be a vacancy on the board. In fact there will be two vacancies. If you would like to serve contact President Lois now.

The Key Club is looking for sponsors to drive them to Denver for the convention, March 22 and return March 24. Rena Phillips, the key club president, announced. She had several other members with her. They in fact filled a table.

Julie Heacock introduced the young Women of the Month. The Grand Junction High School representative could not make it but the ones from the other area high schools were as follows: Fruita was represented by Ida Shea. She had as her sponsor Sandy Houlman.

She was also accompanied by her parents. Central High’s representative was Ashley Nachtrieb. Her sponsor was Doug Roberts and her parents were with her. Palisade’s young Woman was Kara Silbernagle. Her parents were with her and her sponsor was Maggie Sommerville.

Pam Nicholls said the district convention committee met this past Monday and are getting together all the plans for the upcoming district convention which will be held in August.

The board voted to award $700.00 for 4 scholarships to attend the HOBY meetings.

The oversight committee consisting of Steve Stranger, Rick Nisley and Katie Steele met this week They are charged with the oversight of the Kiwanis Camp. That committee also met this week and are making plans for a successful camping season. If you know of any young people’s organization or church group that might be looking for a place to meet this summer have them contact the members of the Kiwanis Camp committee or call Donna Page. The phone number to reach Donna is 268-5546 or e-mail her at execdirector@kiwaniscamp.org .The Camp Committee meeting was well attended with some 25 people there. Let’s all get behind this endeavor. A letter is available signed by Rick Nisley stating our intention to support our camp.

Greg Schaefer had a gift for our president. He brought back from his recent trip to Hawaii a tube of Maui Mint Balm and a necklace of nuts for our "nutty" president.

The Knowledge Bowl is coming up soon. If you would like to participate call President Lois.

Heidi Pankow announced the upcoming plays at the area high schools. Palisade is having the King and I. Central is putting on Carousel and Grand Junction is performing Oklahoma.

President Lois fined Gordon Harbert for being in the news. She also levied fines to Mark Relph and Mark McDill.

Guests today included Elgin Mallory’s wife Sarah and Mark Relph brought Katie Ames.

Birthdays this week were celebrated by Margaret Simonson, Terry Wakefield and Jerry Cooper.
