Kiwanis Weekly

August 1, 2002

Greeters today were Lynne Sorlye and Mark Fugere. The thought for the day was brought by Bruce Isaacson. Giselle Smith lead in prayer and the song of the day was America, The Beautiful.

Bruce said men and women look at money differently. Men usually look at money and start to calculate how much time/effort went into earing it while women usually think of money and start to calculate what that amount would buy in terms of their wants and needs. He also quoted Thoreau who said, "The cost of a thing is the amount of your life you exchange for it."

Birthdays were celebrated this week by Orville Boge and Brandon Ford. Orville was there and was serenaded with Happy Birthday.

Larry Beckner introduced as his guest today Barbara Brewer who is running for County Clerk and Recorder. Heidi Waggoner was introduced by Heidi Pankow. Heidi W was later inducted into the club as our newest member. Welcome, Heidi. Heidi is a mother of one small boy and is employed at Abstract And Title Co.

Pam Nicholls introduced our speaker of the day it was Reeves Brown from Club 20. He told of the purpose and history of Club 20. He said it is not a singles club but rather a club to promote the interests of the 20 western slope counties and Lake and Jackson Counties. Club 20 has been successful in the past 50 years of getting more money for roads in Western Colorado. They also are working to conserve the needs of the west side of the state regarding water. There is diversity among the needs and attitudes of the Western Slope but the club is working to meet the needs of all of us.

President Lois Becker, who conducted the meeting, fined Stan Hilkey for all his TV appearances without any mention of Kiwanis. She also fined Bill Byers because he had not mentioned Kiwanis when he was on the Radio.

Steve Castor announced the meeting for Kiwanis on August 22 will be at Camp Kiwanis. It is a family night. The meal will be served at 6PM but come as early in the afternoon as you wish and go swimming if you like.
